Mark Nichols will present a program on the life of a Civil War soldier on Saturday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Education Center at Homestead National Monument of America. Mr. Nichols is a descendant of a Civil War soldier who was held in three Confederate prisoner of war camps. His family found the ancestor’s diary detailing his experience as a soldier and Mr. Nichols has now turned that into a program. Listen to the stories from the diary and be taken back to a difficult time in our country’s history.

Campfire programs begin at 7:30 p.m. and last approximately one hour. Campfire programs are held outdoors at the campfire ring behind the Education Center. If there is inclement weather, the program will be held in the Education Center. Visitors are encouraged to bring insect repellant and drinking water for comfort as well as lawn chairs if desired.

Homestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice, Nebraska. Current hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Admission is free of charge. For additional information, please call 402-223-3514 or visit www.nps.gov/home.
