Saturdays are a great opportunity for kids of all ages (young and adult) to get outside and use science to learn about nature at Homestead National Monument of America. Helping children and their families experience nature is the focus of the Kids in Parks Program at Homestead National Monument of America. Programs are held each Saturday at 10 a.m. through Aug. 2. Each two hour program includes learning about the topic and then going on the prairie to experience what was learned.
"We hope families take advantage of this free program to explore all that the tall grass prairie has to offer. I think children and parents will enjoy learning together," said Mark Engler, Superintendent
Each week will have a new focus but all will involve going on the prairie. "This is the perfect way to get kids in the woods and out in the environment," said Jesse Bolli, Resource Manager at the Monument.
The Kids in Parks Program is part of a national effort. "The purpose of the program is to promote a national campaign to recognize the importance of connecting children and families to nature," said Mary Bomar, National Park Service Director.
