Kids Activity Thanksgiving Weekend at Homestead National Monument of America

Parents and grandparents bring your children or grandchildren to Homestead National Monument of America to become Junior Rangers during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Friday November 27 through Sunday, November 29.

Experience the Homestead Heritage Center by completing activities in this free booklet. All children completing the activities will receive a Junior Ranger Badge. Activities found in the booklet include word searches, dot-to-dots, matching activities and historic "rebus writing." The booklet is also suitable for coloring. Children are encouraged to find answers to the activities by searching the museum and monument grounds. The activities are self and adult guided, but Park Rangers will be available for assistance. Teenagers are encouraged to complete a booklet using math to solve pioneer problems. The monument welcomes children to become Junior Rangers every day of the year.

You can also celebrate the beginning of the Winter Festival of Prairie Cultures on Sunday, November 29 with the Die Singenden Wanderers (men’s choir) from the German-American Society of Omaha.They perform at the Education Center at 1 and 3 p.m.

The monument is located 4 miles west of Beatrice on Nebraska Highway 4. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. All events are free of charge. The monument is closed Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, 2009.
