Folk singer Charley Groth, a 2007 inductee into America’s National Traditional Country Music Hall of Fame, will perform at Homestead National Monument of America’s final Campfire Program. The presentation will be at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, at Homestead National Monument of America’s Education Center. The singer and instrumentalist plays the guitar in styles from jazz and swing to Piedmont-style blues and Doc Watson-style flatpicking. He does intricate instrumentals, both his own compositions and those of others.
Groth lives in Largo, Florida and in 1989 was named a Florida Master Artist by the Florida Department of State. He has also performed for many years in the famed Florida Folk Festival. "Many visitors have said how much they enjoyed Charley Groth the last few years, so we’re thrilled to have him back to finish up this summer’s campfire programs," said Superintendent Mark Engler.
All Campfire Programs begin at 7:30 p.m. and last approximately one hour. Campfire Programs are held outdoors at the campfire ring behind the Education Center. If there is inclement weather, the program will be held inside. Visitors are encouraged to bring insect repellant for comfort as well as lawn chairs if desired.
Homestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice, Nebraska. Current hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Admission is free of charge. For additional information, please call 402-223-3514 or visit www.nps.gov/home.
