Homestead National Monument of America will host Battlefields of Nebraska  by author Thomas D. Phillips for a program and book signing on Sunday, November 15, 2009, at 1 and 3 p.m. in the Education Center. Mr. Phillips will speak about his new book detailing more than 150 major battles, significant encounters, skirmishes, and incidents covering every corner and almost every county in Nebraska. One of these incidents even involved Daniel Freeman, the first homesteader. Mr. Phillips will also be available to sign his book Battlefields of Nebraska at 2 p.m. The book is available for purchase at Homestead National Monument of America.

A native Nebraskan, Thomas Phillips developed an early fascination for the state's history while growing up on a farm near Lincoln. Soon after graduating from high school, he began a 36 year military career, rising from enlisted recruit to colonel. After retiring from the military, Mr. Phillips worked as an administrator at the University of Nebraska and as a freelance writer. Currently, Mr. Phillips and his wife live in Lincoln, where he writes about military and American history, defense issues, and baseball.
