Kids in Parks Nature Detective Series FREE Summer Fun at Homestead National Monument of America

Children of all ages and their families are invited to investigate nature with Park Rangers at Homestead National Monument of America eachSaturdayin July andSaturday, August 1, from 10 a.m. –12 p.m. All programs begin at the park's Education Center. These programs are FREE of charge, great for all ages, and reservations are not necessary. Nature Detectives will be sleuthing outdoors so please dress appropriately for the weather. Sunscreen, bug spray, and closed toe shoes are encouraged. Program length is subject to weather conditions.

July 4th        Birdie Basics          Observe along the trails our feathered friends of all shapes, sizes

    and behaviors. Learn to use these clues to figure out                 
                                                                  what families these birds belong to.
July 11th      Prairie Plant Prowl      Prowl the tallgrass prairie with the Park Rangers. Look very
                                                                 closely at the plant life and learn tips along the way about 
                                                                 identification.

July 18th     Insect Inspector             Calling all bug hunters! Your help is needed to discover
                                                                 the smallest of inhabitants in the tallgrass prairie. Plan on 
                                                                 catch-releasing all kinds of insects in this fun insect study.
July 25th     Creek Critters        Ever wonder what's living in the mud in Cub Creek? Park
                                                                 Rangers will bring the creek to you so you can find out! Learn        
                                                                 how these creek critters can indicate the health of creeks and  
                                                                 ponds.
August 1st   Scats and Tracks           Investigate clues left by the hidden wildlife that surrounds us.  
                                                                Nature Detectives' keen eyes are needed to locate tracks, trails,
                                                                animal homes and much more.
