  • Forested Area impacted by a wildfire

    Forested area at Hopewell and French Creek were recently impacted by a wildfire. Visitors are encouraged to use caution while hiking the trails. Be aware that some natural hazards such as deadfalls and burned limbs may still fall from impacted trees.

Play, "From Out the Fiery Furance"

A one-act playabout historic Hopewell Furnace entitled "From Out the Fiery Furnace" is being presented at locations in southeastern Pennsylvania. This play was written by playwright Christine Emmert and is performed by actress Barbara Hannevig, who protrays runaway slaves,"fallen women," indentured servants, orphaned children and other charachters. This one-woman play weaves an intricate tale showing how one woman's life experiences can be traced though a Hopewell Furnace made stove. An iron "Molder" was one of the most skilled and best paid workers in the early iron industry.  The best paid iron molder at Hopewell Furnace in 1836 was John Sheeler.  He was paid $434.83 for producing enough cast iron stove plates to make 352 1/2 stoves.
