Bake Ovens
The Bake Ovens furnished the Ironmaster and his family with tasty pies and breads. Other workers also benefited from goodies baked here. The moulders had to stay near the Cast House while they worked. The company hired women who prepared meals for the moulders in the kitchen next to the bake ovens. They served it to the men in the dining room beyond. The moulders paid a small price for each meal. The food for the Ironmaster's family was prepared in a kitchen on the main floor of the house.
Next stop on your tour is the Ironmaster's Mansion and Grounds.

The Bake Ovens, the areas above their doors blackened from use, provided the breads and pies enjoyed by the Ironmaster's family and workers in the adjacent Moulder's Kitchen. The Spring House is visible in the background. |
