Tenant House 1

Across French Creek are four houses built by the furnace company for its workers. The workers who lived in these houses were called tenants. They paid a small rent to the company. At one time, the furnace company owned fourteen houses for its workers. Not all the houses were in the immediate vicinity of the furnace, some were scattered over the company's land. There were some houses at the iron ore mines. Many other workers lived near the furnace property in houses of their own.

Next stop on your tour is Tenant House 2.

Tenant House 1
Tenant House 1 is the closest to the furnace and production area of the village. Built by the Ironmaster, it may have been the founder's home. Today it is a museum, housing artifacts of domestic life.
