Schoolhouse Ruins
These ruins are all that remain of the furnace school house that was built in 1836. The furnace company paid the school tax for its employees. Parents had to buy all the books, papers and pencils needed by their children. Boys and girls were kept at separate sides of the building and a "disciplinary bench" was placed near the teacher's desk.
Next stop on your tour is Tenant House 1.
