Assemblywoman Didi Barrett Will Be The Guest Speaker at Ceremonies Commemorating FDR's 131st Birthday
The National Park Service will host a ceremony on January 30th at 3:00 PM to commemorate President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's 131st birthday.The event is held in the Rose Garden at the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site in Hyde Park, New York.
Recently elected Assemblywoman Didi Barrett from New York's 106th district is scheduled to present the remarks.The United States Military Academy at West Point provides the honor guard and color guard for the event.
Commemorative wreaths will be placed by representatives from the Town of Hyde Park, the Town of Hyde Park, the Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post #1303, Jewish War Veterans, the March of Dimes, the Roosevelt-Vanderbilt Historical Association, the Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill, the Roosevelt Institute, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and the National Park Service.
Special birthday cakes designed for the event are to be served at Henry A. Wallace Visitor and Education Center following the program in the Rose Garden.FDR's birthday cakes will be baked and donated by The Pastry Garden bakery in Poughkeepsie.The cakes will be decorated with a design by Stefan Lonce, author of the DRIVING WITH FDR 2013 BIOGRAPHICAL/COLLECTIBLE CALENDAR; the design consists of two images, based on Social Security cards, with 10 ½ differences between the two images.Attendees will be given a flyer depicting the images, with an answer key identifying the differences between the images.President Roosevelt's love of puzzles and games, and People Magazine's "Second Look" column (which asks readers to find the 10 differences between two photographs, one of which has been modified), inspired the cake design. Refreshments are courtesy of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library.
