Hopewell Discovery Day 2009

Uncover the Mysteries of the Hopewell Culture!

Saturday, October 10, 2009, 10 am to 3 pm

Join Park Rangers on earthwork tours. Have artifacts and fossils professionally identified. Learn about research from the archeology community.

Participate in flint knapping, atlatl throwing, primitive fire, and animal hide tanning demos. Create pottery inspired by 2,000 year-old designs.

Take part in a mock dig and much more!

Did You Know?

Obsidian point from the Mound City Group.

Obsidian has been found at a few Hopewell earthwork sites. The majority of obsidian, several hundred pounds, was found in one mound at Hopewell Mound Group. Some of the obsidian was from Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming- over 1,500 miles away.
