Today's Accomplishments:

Continued work on the south and top of the mound today. Stage 3 (second interior stage) is becoming increasing exposed on the south side, while the control trench is reaching the desired 310 cm depth below datum along its entire length..

The edge of the "horizontal extension" (Stage 3A) on the south side of the mound is the sloping surface on the left side of the bisected unit about midway up the mound slope on the left side of the photo. The 1x1 m unit in this area was bisected, to show the gray clay cap over a slightly deeper Mound stage 3, which is in the eastern (right) half of the unit.. Documenting this construction will occupy the last few days of the fieldwork.

SEAC archaeologists Jill Halchin and Robert Moses excavating in the arbitrary trench atop Mound A, which is being taken to a depth of 310 cm below datum, or about 1.5 meters below ground surface. This depth will guide future investigations at the site, which are tentatively planned for spring 2003.
