Accomplishments: |
We were visited by Timothy R. Pauketat, Susan
Alt, and other crew members from the Grossman site (Illinois) excavations. |
 |
Field supervisors from University of Illinois
Urbana-Champaign who visited the project site. The visitors included Susan
Alt, Jeff Krochten, Paul Millhouse, Tracy Steffgen, Ian Fricker, Alleen
Betzenhauser, Steffanie Ellienke, Tim Pauketat, and Tamira Brennan. |

Archaeologist Timothy R. Pauketat of the
University of Illinois and David G. Anderson discuss strata and features at
Shiloh. Anderson is using a favorite tool of his, a laser pointer, to point
out details in the profiles (without having to jump in and out of the
sometimes quite deep trenches). The laser pointer works fine if the profile
is in shade. |
 |
SEAC archaeologist Steven Kidd excavating a deep
unit (N41 E179) at the south side of the mound summit, near the stump.
Feature 75 is pedestaled in the corner of the unit for later removal. |
 |
Photograph of the 2x4 beams used in the covering
system employed this field season. Two layers of thick black plastic are
then pulled over the top each day, with the edges weighted down with
sandbags. The area to that must be covered and uncovered each day is close
to 200 square meters on the top and sides of the mound, with some of the
units covered quite deep, up to close to 2 meters or so.. |
 |
A red surface with a great deal of associated
charcoal and artifactual debris that appeared in N48 E179, with two possible
posts, features 78 and 79. |
 |
Close up of Feature 77, a possible post in N55
E183. |
