HOW CAN YOU HELP
  • Report archeological discoveries to your state archeology office. Also report activities such as unauthorized collection and illegal selling of artifacts, vandalism and looting, and construction projects that might threaten a potential or known site. Avoid damaging old buildings and archeological sites on your own property until an archeologist from the state office or nearby facility can evaluate them.
  • Support community ordinances that protect or rehabilitate archeological sites. Join an avocational archeological society or participate in special public archeology sessions sponsored by professional societies.
  • Take advantage of public outreach and education programs. Discover archeology through a state-sponsored Archeology Week, during which activities are geared specifically to general audiences of all ages. Learn how much archeology affects your daily lives. Contact your state archeology office for more information.
