Fort Bragg Gravestone Restoration Projects

Beginning in 1917, when the United States Army began acquiring lands for Camp Bragg, agreements were enacted with the former land owners for the preservation of churches and cemeteries, some dating from the 18th century. While Fort Bragg has, over the years, erected fences, posted off limits signs, cut grass, and provided general maintenance of these cemeteries, until recently, there was no major attempt to repair grave markers that have been damaged by vandalism, aging, or accidental damage.

However, since the 1990s, Fort Bragg has pursued an extensive program of cemetery inventory and preservation. An update on these efforts will be posted soon.
