2003 marked the third consecutive field season that a large crew of SEAC archeologists and volunteers carried out excavation work at Mound A of the Shiloh Mound Complex, Shiloh National Military Park, Tennessee. This has been one of the largest archeological field projects ever undertaken by NPS and has resulted in a number of significant discoveries. The mound was occupied from about 1000 years ago by Mississippian peoples and was fortified with an encircling palisade. The site is threatened by streambank erosion.
