![]() Waterford's original Quaker meeting house was built in the 1740s from logs. In 1761, Waterford's Quakers replaced the original meeting house with the right half of this building. Ten years later, they doubled the size of the meeting house to 36 feet by 72 feet with the addition of the left side. Also evident in the photo is part of the cemetery for the meeting house. The building has been used as a residence since 1939. Questions for Photo 4 1. Why would the first meeting house have been made of logs? 2. Which other buildings in Waterford started as log buildings? 3. What do the changes in size of the building say about the growth of the Quaker population in Waterford? 4. Why do you suppose the Meeting House is now a private residence? * The photo on this screen has a resolution of 72 dots per inch (dpi), and therefore will print poorly.
