American Visionaries:
Thomas Moran, a World Wide Web exhibit, features works from NPS museum
collections on exhibit in the first retrospective of
Thomas Moran's work organized by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
and the Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, OK.
The exhibition opened September 28, 1997, at
the National
Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. It is on view from
February 8 through May 10, 1998, at the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa.
The exhibition will travel to the Seattle Art
Museum, where it will be on display from June 20 through August 30, 1998.
Yellowstone National Park's museum houses some tools Thomas Moran used in his work, including brushes and palette knives; the diary Moran kept during his travels to Yellowstone; an early attempt at an autobiography; and some personal effects. Rare film footage in the retrospective exhibition comes from Yosemite National Parks museum collection.
