With an access to the second story balcony, Russell and Hattie’s room had a desirable location. Like all the rooms on the west side of the house, the room is long and narrow. Beyond the bed, a doorway led to a closet, which then led into their daughter’s room. Before central cooling systems, these doors could be opened to induce a breeze throughout the length of the potentially stuffy row house. Directly across from the entranceway, a photo of the young granddaughter, Maggie Laura Walker, is visible.
