Visiting
Petersburg National Battlefield
(Grant's
Headquarters at City Point)
General
Ulysses S. Grant's Civil War headquarters
cabin is located at the City Point Unit
of the Petersburg National Battlefield,
part of the National Park Service. The town
of City Point is now known as Hopewell,
and it is approximately eight miles from
the main Petersburg Battlefield. These National
Park sites offer visitors the chance to
learn more about the War Between the States
and view historic artifacts from that period.

DIRECTIONS:
To
Grant's Headquarters at City Point (Hopewell,
VA):
From I-95: Take Hopewell exit (Route 10
east). Travel about 8 miles along route
10, cross over the Appomattox River. You
will travel through the first stop light.
Turn left at the second stop light on
Main Street, which runs directly into
Appomattox Street. Continue until it dead-ends.
Turn left on Cedar Lane and the parking
lot for City Point will be on the left.
From
295: Take Hopewell exit (Route 10 east).
Travel about 3 miles along Route 10. Follow
above directions for I-95.
To
the Eastern Front Visitor Center:
From the North on I-95: Take I-95 to Petersburg.
Take exit #52 to Wythe Street. (Note:
Stay in the left lane of the exit ramp
for Wythe Street.) At Wythe Street (VA
Route 36) turn left at the light. Travel
east to the park entrance (2.5 miles)
on the right.
From
the South on I-95: Take I-95 to exit #50D,
Wythe Street (VA Route 36). Take the first
right onto Wythe Street. Continue east
(2.5 miles) to the park entrance on the
right.
From
I-295: Take I-295 to exit 9D (VA Route
36). Continue west on Route 36 to the
park entrance on the left.
From
the South on I-85: Take I-85 north to
exit #69, Wythe Street (VA Route 36).
Take the first right off the exit ramp
onto Wythe Street and continue east (2.5
miles) to the park entrance on the right.
