National Park Service History & Culture

The National Park Service increases awareness of our built history and encourages the sensitive rehabilitation of historic properties throughout the United States by producing a variety of technical publications including Preservation Briefs, hosting national conferences, and administering programs such as the National Register of Historic Places and the Historic Preservation Tax Incentives Program.

State Historic Preservation Officers

State Historic Preservation Officers locate and record historic properties, nominate significant historic properties to the National Register, foster historic preservation programs at the local government level and the creation of preservation ordinances, provide matching funds for preservation projects, comment upon preservation projects under consideration for the federal rehabilitation tax credit, review all federal projects for impact on historic properties under Section 106 of the Act and the regulations of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and provide technical assistance on restoration and other preservation activities to federal agencies, state and local governments, and the private sector.

Society for Commercial Archeology

Established in 1977, SCA is the oldest national organization devoted to the buildings, artifacts, structures, signs, and symbols of the 20th century commercial landscape.

Recent Past Preservation Network

RPPN assists preservationists efforts to save buildings, landscapes, and structures of the recent past - from the vernacular to the high-style - by providing an open community platform for the development and revision of practical strategies to document, preserve, and re-use these historic and often under-appreciated places.

Association for Preservation Technology

Created in 1968 as a joint venture between preservationists in Canada and the United States, APTI is the only organization dedicated solely to promoting the best technology for conserving historic structures and their settings.
