On July 26 a call was received from Larry Shick of KING-5 news. Larry said that he had received several phone calls in one day regarding the quantity of rock showing on the mountain. One caller lived in the area for 30 years, the other for 60 years, so it must have been obvious.
Before responding to Larry, I talked with Bundy Phillips who gave me the following information. It may be of interest to you as well.
Total snowfall at Paradise for the snow year 1984-85: 711 inches.
Bundy speculates that much less snow than normal fell above the 8,000 to 9,000 ft. elevations. This may have added to the quantity of rock showing for much of the summer of 1985.
Paradise a place so nice
A beauty so rare, that once you dare
I chanced by there and without dispair
Yes, there I'll stay from day to day
For no better life could suffice
