HAER Documentation of Space Shuttle Flight Control Room, Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas

This animation shows the point cloud data acquired via high definition laser scanning of the Shuttle Flight Control Room (FCR), or "White" FCR. The scan data consists of about 17 scan stations with HDR Pano Photo textures applied. The acquisition and post processing of the point cloud data is the preliminary stage in our process to produce archivally stable documentation for the HABS/HAER/HALS national collection available at the Library of Congress.

With the Space Shuttles now retired, NASA has partnered with the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) to document the Space Shuttle Flight Control Room at Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Referred to as the White FCR, it directed and supported in-flight and on-orbit activities for the orbiters, astronauts and payloads beginning with mission STS-70 in July of 1995 and continuing through the end of the program with STS-135 in July 2011.

The field documentation team consisted of HDP architects Jeremy Mauro and John Wachtel. The fly-through animation was rendered using Pointools by John and Jeremy with support from Paul Davidson.
