The
Cultural Resources Diversity Program lists the websites of and contacts for
other National Park Service programs that offer internships or summer
employment in historic preservation, cultural resources, and related work.
Harpers Ferry National Historic
Park:
The Harpers
Ferry NHP is in Harpers Ferry,
West Virginia, surrounded by
the panoramic scenery of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers.
The curatorial program offers a 12-week internship to work with a major
National Park Service museum collection; For complete details contact

The education division offers several 12 to 15-week internships to assist
in the operation and management of that office; for complete details

Dormitory housing is provided, plus a weekly stipend from the volunteer
program. Contact the park division for deadlines/ availability of the

Heritage Documentation Programs HABS/HAER/HALS:
The Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering
Record/Historic American Landscape Survey of the National Park Service
offers summer employment. 12-week summer jobs beginning
May/June involve documenting historic sites and structures of
architectural, landscape and technological significance throughout the
country; the application deadline is usually
in mid-January (postmark date). Also look for
internships
and fellowships in architectural history, architecture, and
engineering.
Heritage Preservation Services:
The Historic
Preservation Internship Training Program, operated jointly with the National Center for Preservation Education,
gives undergraduate and graduate students opportunities to undertake
short-term research and administrative projects with the National Park
Service either during the summer or the school year. The program trains our
future historians, archeologists, architects, curators, planners,
archivists by fostering an awareness of the National Park Service cultural
resource management activities and providing the opportunity to work under
the direction of experienced professionals in the field of historic
preservation.

Park
NAGPRA: The Park NAGPRA internship program provides
opportunities for Native American students to work in parks, centers, and
offices nationwide on projects related to the Native American Graves
Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA).
Interns will help manage the treatment and disposition of cultural items that
are in the possession or control of NPS. Projects may include working with
archeological and ethnographic collections, assisting with consultation
meetings, assisting with the repatriation of Native American human remains
and cultural items, or administrative tasks. For more information contact

Social
Science Program: The Social Science Program of the National
Park Service offers semester-long graduate student internships based in Washington, DC.
Graduate student interns with the NPS Social Science Program work with the
Visiting Chief Social Scientist and other program staff on research and
technical assistance projects that deliver usable knowledge to NPS managers

Statue
of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island: The Statue of Liberty
National Monument and Ellis Island at Liberty Island, New York, NY, accepts
applications for internships at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum.
Interns will have the opportunity to work on various projects involving
cultural resources research and collections management that contribute to
the documentation, preservation, and use of the park’s cultural resources.

Student Conservation Association:
The Student Conservation Association is an organization
that places high school students, undergraduate and graduate students in
internships for conservation service, cultural resources work, and
urban-green spaces programs across the country, many of which are with the
