The recent growth in the study and interpretation of African American History within the National Park Service illustrates the comprehensive attempt by many park units to tell their parts of this story to the American people. By using new scholarship, National Park Service historians, archeologists and other preservation specialists have come to understand more of the great breath and depth of this shared history and its relationship to the overall fabric of American History. The National Park Service will continue to work with academic, preservation and other partners to see that all sites associated with this history in the national park system are preserved and interpreted for the education and enjoyment of the American people.
