Using the TemplatesSoftware templates for park newspapers, rack cards, site bulletins, and other common park-produced publications are available on the NPS Graphics Identity Program website. They are prepared for PC Microsoft Word, PC Adobe PageMaker, PC QuarkXPress, MacOS Adobe PageMaker, and MacOS QuarkXPress. Learning to use these programs takes more than casual interest. And, like any tool, these programs take practice. NPS Graphic Identity Program » This serves as a basic checklist for using the templates. The templates come with the title band, NPS arrowhead, and titles in place. In most cases, text can be replaced right over the sample type. Horizontal bars and spacers are available to be moved where they are needed. Directions are printed in red. They are for your reference but should be deleted before being sent to the printer. TipsPrepare a basic template for your park, with park name and designation, and save it for each new publication so you don’t have to start from the beginning each time. The grayscale arrowhead will appear on computer screen, printouts, and proofs with a white rectangle around it. However, when your commercial printer runs film, the white rectangle will not show. To be safe, check with the printer, look at the film, or review a proof to confirm this. Some elements are locked in place on the template, such as the title band and arrowhead. Should you be using color and replacing the grayscale arrowhead with the four-color version, you will need to unlock the arrowhead. If the unlock command does not unlock it, try this:
The 3-point rules should be a set distance below the text above, and a set distance above the text below. This space is marked with a pair of non-printing rectangles with a blue "X" through them. Select both rectangles and the 3-point rules and group them. Now you can copy as many rules as you need and move them around when adding a new text section. Place a non-printing grid line on the base line of the last line of text. Place the top of the top spacer on that line. Now place another non-printing grid line on the bottom of the bottom spacer. Place the top of the subtitle and text on the line. The sections are now correctly spaced horizontally. On a one-page bulletin the "Experience Your America" phrase should remain at the bottom of the page. On a two-page bulletin, it should appear only on the bottom of the second page. Simply unlock and delete it from page one. The National Park Foundation has two registered trademarks and three marks where it has a registration pending. To protect each of these marks, we should be using the ™ and ® symbols in materials we produce. For the registered marks, you should be sure to use the ® symbol with both PARKS AS CLASSROOMS and PARK FLIGHT. With the three pending marks, you should use the ™ symbol—AFRICAN
AMERICAN EXPERIENCE FUND, EXPERIENCE YOUR AMERICA, and GOPARKS. |
