2009 Artists-in-Residence Donate Works
The 2009 Artist-in-Residence program at Herbert Hoover National Historic Site featured writer Laura Madeline Wiseman and painter Patricia Rottino Cummins. Each artist donated work created during their residencies this summer.

Teacher-Ranger Helps Kids Teach Kids about National Parks
This fall, after her second summer as an interpretive ranger at Herbert Hoover NHS, teacher Kristen Bergren returned to her third grade classroom in Moline, Illinois. As the park’s Teacher-Ranger, she will continue sharing her love for national parks with her students.

Prescribed Fire Planned in Fall 2009
The National Park Service will burn half of the 81-acre tallgrass prairie at Herbert Hoover National Historic Site sometime in October or November of 2009.

“Cedar County, Iowa: A Door to Freedom”, an exhibit on the Underground Railroad, is on display at the Visitor Center of Herbert Hoover National Historic Site.

Replanting of Prairie Trails Will Reduce Park's Carbon Footprint and Add Two Acres of Native Plants
Two and a half miles of prairie trails are being reduced to seven feet wide from 10 to 14 feet wide. The trails will require less frequent mowing and, as a result, less fossil fuel use by the park.
