Registration is Required:. This program is limited to 20 people due to the fragile nature of this kipuka. Call 808-985-6011 for reservations
Where: Those registered for this free program should meet at Kahuku's gate (located between the 70 and 71 mile markers on the mauka (mountain) side of Hwy 11, approximately 42 miles south of Kilauea Visitor Center)
What: 1.5 mile hike - 3 hours
View some of the rare plants and wildlife that inhabit this treasured Kahuku kipuka. There will opportunities to protect this rain forest by removing the invasive kahili ginger and other invasive, non-native plants.
What to Wear: Sturdy hiking shoes, long pants, sunscreen, and protection from the weather (jacket/rain jacket)
What to Bring: Water (there is NO water available in this area), daypack, garden gloves, mosquito repellent, lunch, snacks, camera.
Note: Participants should be able to scramble over fallen trees, rough lava rock, and slippery wet terrain. Weather can be sunny, cool, or rainy.
