Rupert Tripp - July 20 2011 Performance at Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park Visitor Center
Born and raised in Keaukaha on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi, singer/songwriter and Praise & Worship leader Rupert Tripp Jr. has been performing as a professional musician since the age of 14. In 1986, he formed the group Nalu, recorded several albums and earned a nomination for Most promising Artist and Group of the Year at the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards. His very first Gospel CD, For an audience of One was nominated for Religious Album of the Year in 2004.
Rupert has performed and shared the stage with some of Hawaiʻi's top recording artists including The Makaha Sons of Niʻihau, Brother Nolan, Roland Cazimero, Randy Lorenzo, Kapena, The Peter Moon Band, Loyal Garner, Cecilio & Kapono and many more.
He is a member of the acoustic guitar trio KOHALA featuring Grammy Award winner Charles Michael Brotman. When he is not on the road with KOHALA he performs as a soloist and with his band RTJ and The In Step Rhythm Band in restaurants/bars and private functions throughout the Island. He performs Hawaiian, Country, Soft Rock, Oldies and Contemporary Christian. Some of his favorite artist he loves to cover are Kenny Loggins, James Taylor, Gabby Pahinui, Garth Brooks, Chris Tomlin, Kalapana, Cecilio and Kapono and many others.
He currently performs in the evening at Kaleo's Bar & Grill- Tuesday & Friday 6:30-8:30, Cafe Pesto Hilo - Thursday 6:00-8:00 and Hilo Burger Joint - Wednesday 6:00-9:00. Rupert's CD's will be available for purchase at the concert.
