Celebrate Black History Month by coming to Hampton National Historic Site on February 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m.! Join Shindana Cooper – famed storyteller and poet, for a stimulating afternoon highlighting the struggles and triumphs of leaders such as Harriet Tubman, Mary McLeod Bethune and Frederick Douglass. In addition to stories of famous African-Americans, Shindana Cooper perpetuates the centuries old tradition of oral history. Her storytelling is spellbinding. She takes her audience from an African Village, through the Middle Passage, from the plantation, to a safe house on the underground railroad. Tours of the slave cabins will be given following the program.

Shindana Cooper has been the featured artist at Baltimore’s Afram Expo, Baltimore’s Artscape Celebration and the National Catholic’s Conference for Interracial Justice. She also conducts workshops for children and adults on storytelling and the celebration of Kwanza.
