Haleakala Red Hill Parking Lot to Fully Close During Construction

The parking lot at Pu`u `ula`ula (Red Hill), where the park roads ends at the 10,023 foot summit, will be fully closed to vehicles and pedestrians beginning Thursday, July 18th, through Thursday, July 25th. The closure includes one weekend. Cars must vacate this lot by 6:45am on the morning of the 18th. Vehicles remaining after 6:45am will be ticketed and towed. During construction, visitors will be directed to lower elevation overlooks, all of which have amazing views of the crater.

The accessible parking stalls at Leleiwi Overlook will be closed for repaving on July 17th and 18th. Other Leleiwi stalls will remain open.

Accessibility improvement work in the summit area of Haleakalā is scheduled through September 2013. Visitors and residents should expect continued heavy construction traffic on Haleakalā Highway and Crater Road. For the latest updates please check www.nps.gov/hale or call 572-4400.
