Harpers Ferry National Historical Park invites the public to attend The Harpers Ferry Armory and the War of 1812, a Bicentennial Commemorative event, on Saturday, August 23, 2014. This special event marks the 200th anniversary of Jefferson County's Captain George W. Humphrey's company of volunteers being mustered into service. Captain Humphrey's men fought the British at the Battle of White House Bluff. The commemoration includes ranger-guided programs, musical performances, living history, and a historic weapons firing demonstration.

Special guests are musicians David and Ginger Hildebrand, of the Colonial Music Institute, who will perform “Music of the War of 1812” at 12 pm and 2 pm. The War of 1812 produced a huge variety of songs in America that highlighted party politics, dramatized great sea battles, and lauded war heroes. The Hildebrands will explain the true story of "The Star-Spangled Banner" and share music of the era through voice, period guitars, violins, recorder, and the hammered dulcimer.

For additional information, please call the Park Information Center at 304-535-6029. This program is made possible through the generous support of the Harpers Ferry Historical Association and Bookshop.
