Arlington Memorial Bridge & Memorial Ave.

Arlington Memorial Bridge stands as the symbolic link across the Potomac River linking the Lincoln Memorial in D.C. to Memorial Ave. in Arlington, Virginia, the entry into Arlington National Cemetery.  Designed to be "an Avenue of Heroes," Memorial Avenue is lined with monuments and memorials ending at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial inside the cemetery.

Ranger Programs

Visit Arlington National Cemetery

Arlington National Cemetery is one of the largest active cemeteries in the nation with graves spanning from the American Revolutionary War until present day. It contains numerous memorials and gravesites reflecting American history, including the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Kennedy gravesites, and Arlington House, the Robert E. Lee Memorial.

The Arlington National Cemetery Visitor Center is located on Memorial Ave. It is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. during April through September and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during October through March. Parking is available for a fee at a parking garage located next to the visitor center.  

Visit Women in Military Service for America Memorial (WIMSA)

Dedicated on October 18, 1997, the Women in Military Service for America Memorial honors military women who served in our nation's defense in the past, present, and future. The Memorial site includes a 30-foot high curved neoclassical structure and a reflecting pool. Inside are a Hall of Honor, exhibits, a theater, education room, gift shop, and computerized Register. The terrace offers a sweeping panoramic view of Washington, D.C.

The Memorial is located on the west end of Arlington Ave. inside Arlington National Cemetery. To schedule a tour of the Memorial, please call 703-893-2606. It is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. during April through September and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during October through March. Parking is available for a fee at a parking garage located next to the Arlington National Cemetery Visitor Center.

Plan Your Visit

Hours & Seasons

The Arlington Memorial Bridge is open year-round from sunrise to sunset. Arlington National Cemetery is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. April through September and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. October through March.

Directions

Arlington Memorial Bridge and Memorial Avenue are located off the George Washington Memorial Parkway immediately south of Rossyln. The bridge begins at the Lincoln Memorial and ends at the entrance of Arlington National Cemetery.

By car: Access Arlington Memorial Bridge on the Washington D.C. side via Independence Avenue and the Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway. Access on the Virginia side is provided by George Washington Memorial Parkway. Parking (for a fee) is available at the Arlington National Cemetery Visitor Center.

By Metro: Take the Metro Blue Line to Arlington Cemetery Station. The station exit is on Memorial Avenue west of the bridge.

On foot or by bike: Wide sidewalks may be used on the bridge to walk from or to Arlington National Cemetery or the Lincoln Memorial. The Mount Vernon Trail may be used to access Memorial Bridge.  

Facilities

Arlington National Cemetery Visitor Center and Women in Military Service for America Memorial are both open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. during April through September and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during October through March. Restrooms, water fountains, and gift shops are available inside both buildings. Parking is available for a fee at the Arlington National Cemetery Visitor Center. The Tourmobile ticket counter and station is located at the Arlington National Cemetery Visitor Center.

Rules and Regulations

For parkwide rules, please view the Park Compendium. Rules regarding Turkey Run Park include:

  • Removing or damaging natural or cultural resources is prohibited
  • Bicycles are allowed on Arlington Memorial Bridge and Memorial Avenue, but not inside Arlington National Cemetery from Memorial Ave
  • Pets must be on a least no longer than 6 feet at all times
  • Commercial and organized group activities, including wreath laying ceremonies and organized runs/walks/rides, require a permit obtained from the National Park Service
