What is the Traveling Trunk Program?

The Traveling Trunk program consists of activities for elementary and middle school students.  The trunks can be shipped to schools, libraries, museums, and other groups across the United States. These trunks are wonderful educational tools from which children of all ages may learn. George Washington Carver National Monument ships the trunks to borrowers. Borrowers are responsible for return shipping fees.

George Washington Carver Traveling Trunk

The George Washington Carver Traveling Trunk is an overview of Dr. Carver’s life. This trunk contains a variety of hands-on objects, photographs, books, posters, costumes, videos, and supportive instructional materials related to the life and work of Dr. Carver. The trunk contains a simple science experiment to help children learn.

Carver Man of Vision

  • Length: 29 minutes
  • Synopsis: This video describes the amazing life of George Washington Carver. It describes his life from growing up on the Carver farm in Diamond Grove, Missouri through his struggles for an education. It ends with his work in Tuskegee, Alabama at the Tuskegee Institute and his impact on southern agriculture.

  • Synopsis: This video is a documentary of George Washington Carver's life and contributions to science.

The Peanut Man: George Washington Carver

  • Length: 34 minutes
  • Synopsis: This video is an application of George Washington Carver's teachings. It follows the story of a young man who is faced with a life changing decision. This young man leans on the teachings of Carver to help him make his choices. This video also includes a 2 minute quiz.

Did You Know?
The rural setting of the monument offers scenic views of prairies, woodlands, and rolling hills. A variety of oak, maple, and locust trees span the front lawn.
