The cool,
clear waters of Williams Spring rise out of the ground on
the northern edge of the pond. Created in the 1930’s by
the earthen dam to your left, the pond is named after the
Williams family. Sarah Jane Williams, a niece of Moses
Carver, lived with her husband William Williams on the
Carver farm in a house that was located just north of the
spring.

The Pond provides a
home for many different animals during the warmer weather.
Look for frogs, turtles, dragonflies and a variety of fish
and birds. A closer look will reveal a variety of smaller
inhabitants such as crayfish, mayflies, water striders and
the larvae of many other insects. Larger animals make
the pond area their home as well. Raccoons, muskrats, mink,
opossum, great blue heron and several species of snakes form
an integral part of the pond community. During the migration
you may see ducks or Canada geese stopping on the pond for a
rest. Sit here quietly for a moment, and feel the peace that
young George found in nature.
