Meet at Battery Worth Picnic Area. Look for the dive flag. Equipment is provided, first come, first served, or bring your own mask and snorkel. Wear water shoes. Children under 17 years of age must be accompanied by and adult. Fridays, June 12 through August 14, 10:00 a.m. (1.5 hours)

Stargazing with the Escambia Amateur Astronomers' Association

Weather permitting, meet at Battery Worth Picnic Area, Fridays, June 19, July 17, & August 14, sunset to 10:00 p.m.

Naval Live Oaks Visitor Center is open daily 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There is an $8 entrance fee at Rosamond Johnson Beach, Opal Beach, and Fort Pickens Area.  Be prepared for intense heat, drink plenty of water, use sunscreen with SPF rating of 30 or higher, and wear sunglasses and a hat.  Call Naval Live Oaks Visitor Center at (850) 934-2600 for updated information or visit our website at www.nps.gov/guis.  Ranger led programs are free and subject to change.  Park Visitor Centers are closed Christmas Day. 

 

FortPickensArea

The Fort Pickens Area is open daily 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Fort Pickens Visitor Center is open

9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. March through October and 8:30 a.m. to 4:oo p.m. November through February.  Ranger guided tours daily at 2:00 p.m.  (30-45 minutes)

International Coastal Cleanup at Perdido Key, Naval Live Oaks, Fort Pickens and Santa Rosa Areas on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Call Ranger Amanda at (850) 916-3001 for information. Bring sun block, water and a hat. 

 

Sound Side Serenade at Naval Live Oaks Picnic Area, Saturday, October 17, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Enjoy an afternoon of music outdoors.  Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.

Did You Know?
Because of the tropical-like conditions, the U. S. Army established the Cat Island War Dog Training Camp in south Mississippi during World War II. A variety of dog breeds were trained to guard, deliver messages, and attack the enemy. Cat Island is part of Gulf Islands National Seashore.
