Gulf Islands National Seashore
Island Closures Due to Hurricane Ida
Due to the forecasted storm conditions including high tides and strengthening winds caused by Hurricane Ida, Gulf Islands National Seashore will close Fort Pickens and the east end of Perdido Key in the Florida District, and all Mississippi barriers islands at 10:00 p.m. tonight, Sunday November 8, 2009. When announcing this closure, Superintendent Jerry Eubanks said that with this system predicted to impact northern Gulf of Mexico, the National Seashore will evacuate all visitors including Fort Pickens campers and Night Owl pass holders in Florida and all visitors on Cat, Horn, Petit Bois, East Ship and West Ship Islands. "We need to close these island areas at 10:00 p.m. or if conditions worsen sooner, for the safety of our visitors and employees," Eubanks said.
