    Shorebirds are nesting near roads and cross the road regularly. Observe posted speed limits and be alert for tiny birds on the roads. Last year 155 birds were killed on park roads, help us reduce the mortality rate of these beautiful birds and go slow.

NOW RECRUITING FOR LIFEGUARD POSITIONS

Lifeguards are needed for the National Park Service lifeguard team at Gulf Islands National Seashore. Recruitement is underway for up to ten lifeguards in the Florida District and four lifeguards on West Ship Island for the Mississippi District. This seasonal job opportunity is a wonderful way to get experience in the National Park Service and to earn a salary. The 2nd Regiment of Louisiana Native Guards trained on Ship Island and became the first black unit on April 9, 1863 on the Gulf Frontier. They met Confederate forces in battle during a raid on Pascagoula, MS.
