Did You Know?
The best known African American soldiers at the Battle of Guilford Court House were Corporal Thomas Carney, who fought in the battle with the veteran First Maryland Regiment, and Andrew Furgison, who escaped from servitude with the British and fought in a Virginia militia unit.
