The Fire Management Office at Great Smoky Mountains National Park has announced that a 200 acre prescribed burn will be conducted today just south of the Wears Valley in Sevier County, TN. The Park’s Wear Cove Road will serve as one of the control lines of the fire and will be closed from mid-day today until Saturday morning.

Park firefighters will be on the scene to keep the fire within its prescribed boundaries. As a further precaution fire engines from Wears Valley and Townsend Volunteer Fire Departments are also pre-positioned near structures outside the Park boundary.

Residents of Wears Valley can expect periodic smoke throughout the afternoon and evening.

Fall leaf colors are most vivid at low to mid elevations.
