Great Smoky Mountains National Park Superintendent, Dale A. Ditmanson, has been notified that Tennessee’s Senior Senator, Lamar Alexander, has confirmed his plans to appear as a guest pianist in a June 13 Knoxville Symphony Orchestra performance in honor of the 75th Anniversary of the national park. The Orchestra is scheduled to perform outdoors in a scenic meadow adjacent to the Cable Mill in Cades Cove, one of the most popular visitor destinations in America’s most visited national park.
"Senator Alexander has long been a staunch supporter of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, both as Governor of Tennessee and while serving in the United States Senate." Ditmanson said, "Many area residents have fond memories of seeing him perform with the Symphony in the Cove during the Park’s 50th Anniversary in 1984 while he was Governor. So we are pleased and honored that he will be able to join us again this summer."
Ditmanson said that, because of limitations in the amount of parking available at the concert site, the Park is working with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and the Friends of the Smokies, which is sponsoring the concert, to develop a system of parking passes. The Park expects to release information about obtaining the passes within the next few days.
