Overview
Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers a unique opportunity to witness the panorama of Southern Appalachian history and culture.This unit is broken into three parts. The overall unit involves a trip to the park and is accompanied by one preparation activity and two wrap-up activities.
Objective(s)
1) To introduce students to the tools and buildings used by early settlers
2) To have students compare communities of today to the mountain communities in the late 1800's.
3) To introduce students to ways people use the forest as a supermarket and a drugstore.
