In this podcast, we have the opportunity to meet Capt. John Hance, portrayed by Park Ranger, Ron Brown. Hance was an early Grand Canyon pioneer and storyteller who first saw the Grand Canyon in 1883, then called the area home for the rest of his life.

Hance entertained early visitors with dozens of tall tales - many with alternate endings. It was said that he never told the same to story in the same way twice.

Video - Insider's Look #11 Climate Change and Climate Friendly Parks.

Grand Canyon’s (as well as Earth’s) climate has been changing for hundreds of millions of years and that change has been recorded in the rock layers we see before us. Now, we’re hearing more and more about the effects of modern-day climate changes. Scientists are concerned because the climate is changing faster than ever before, and believe that people are the main cause of this. So will we see the impacts of climate change here at GRCA? Unfortunately, the answer is probably: yes !

Audio - Insider's Look #6 - Recycling Program at the Grand Canyon Village Post Office

On June 29th 2009, Grand Canyon resident, Rosie McGee, expressed concern with the lack of recycling at the Grand Canyon National Park Post Office and suggested several reasons why a recycling program would benefit the USPS and the park's environment. Diane Hanna, an Environmental Compliance/Risk Mitigation Specialist for the USPS got the Service to jump into action deploying recycling
containers directly to the Grand Canyon Post Office. In order to promote the new recycling initiative at the Grand Canyon Post Office, the Postmaster Kent Boyack placed Notice 180 postcards in all active P.O. Boxes alerting users to the presence of the new recycle bins and encouraging Post Office box holders to place unwanted mail in the recycle bin once it has been read.<br />
The successful outcome was truly a team effort between federal agencies. Because the post office is located within National Park boundaries, a relationship between the USPS and National Park Service (NPS) has developed. Ken Guillory, Sanitation Operations Supervisor, and Deirdre Hanners, Environmental Protection Specialist, from the NPS were instrumental in generating press for the DLM mail recycling success story at the Grand Canyon.

Boxes alerting users to the presence of the new recycle bins and encouraging Post Office box holders to place unwanted mail in the recycle bin once it has been read.
The successful outcome was truly a team effort between federal agencies. Because the post office is located within National Park boundaries, a relationship between the USPS and National Park Service (NPS) has developed. Ken Guillory, Sanitation Operations Supervisor, and Deirdre Hanners, Environmental Protection Specialist, from the NPS were instrumental in generating press for the DLM mail recycling success story at the Grand Canyon.</itunes:summary>
