On June 29th 2009, Rosie McGee, a concerned citizen of Grand Canyon AZ, sent a letter to Steve Kern at the USPS Consumer Affairs and Claims Office in Arizona, as well as a copy to Postmaster General John Potter. Her letter expressed concern with the lack of recycling at her Grand Canyon National Park Post Office and suggested several reasons a recycling program would benefit USPS and the environment.
McGee requested that USPS’ Discarded Lobby Mail (DLM) program, which aims to provide postal customers with a convenient, environmentally responsible alternative to bringing home or discarding their PO Box mail, be expanded to include her post office.
The letter was forwarded on July 10th to Diane Hanna, an Environmental Compliance/Risk Mitigation Specialist. She got the Postal Service to jump into action deploying recycling
containers directly to the Grand Canyon Post Office. By the week of July 20th, four brand new specially designed Slim Jim recycling containers arrived at the Grand Canyon Post
Office. Read more... USPS Read, Respond, Recycle Your Mail - August 2009 (225kb PDF File)
