Current Planning Efforts

Fire and resource staff are revising the existing Fire Management Plan (FMP) to meet evolving federal fire policy and to stay current with NPS and park-specific resource stewardship goals. These revisions include an assessment of the environmental impacts of four proposed sets of action.

Below are documents that you can download to check our progress. We expect to conclude our planning effort before January 2009.

The Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the park's Fire Management Plan is now available for public review and comment.

Existing Fire Management Plan (2005)

Park Managers follow a comprehensive written plan to implement fire managment activities at Grand Canyon. This plan is necessary because it provides guidance on who, what, where, and how activities will occur to meet identified resource stewardship objectives.

NPS Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC)
