Grand Canyon, Ariz. – The third and final “fee-free” weekend of the summer is quickly approaching. On Saturday and Sunday, August 15 and 16, Grand Canyon National Park will join national park units across the country in waiving entrance fees for all park visitors. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced the fee-free weekends in June as a way of encouraging Americans seeking affordable vacations to visit their national parks.

Visitors who arrive on either August 15 or August 16 will be allowed to enter and visit the park free of charge. Those whose plans include additional days in the park, will need to pay the regular entrance fee for the remainder of their stay. Park visitors are reminded that the fee-free designation applies to entrance fees only and does not affect fees for camping, reservations, tours or use of concessions. Park entrance stations will have Senior and Annual Passes available for those who wish to purchase them.

In addition to free admission to the park, Grand Canyon visitors who come during the fee-free weekend will once again have the opportunity to take advantage of specials being offered by park concessioners.

·       Xanterra South Rim, L.L.C., will offer an All American Dessert special in their three rim-side restaurants—the El Tovar, the Arizona Room and the Bright Angel Lodge Dining Room; a special price on custom-designed fleece blankets with a purchase of over $50.00; and an End of Summer package that includes accommodations, breakfast and a motor coach tour for two.

·       At Grand Canyon Market Place (also on the South Rim), the fee-free weekend will be celebrated with buy-one-get-one free specials in the retail area and, if you are wondering what to grill for dinner, check out the bratwurst specials; a voucher for $5.00 off any purchase is also available on-line at www.ParkSpecialOffers.com from the Market Place’s parent company, Delaware North.

·       On the North Rim, Forever Resorts will be handing out free, reusable, eco-friendly, shopping bags all weekend; and on Saturday, they will be helping visitors commemorate their visits with free digital photos from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and sponsoring the 14th annual Symphony of the Canyon at 6:30 p.m.

Grand Canyon National Park’s staff, friends and partners would like to remind everyone that these fee-free weekends are excellent opportunities to get reacquainted with their national parks while enjoying inexpensive, family-oriented fun.
