August 7 Update on New Water Fire on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon, Ariz. – The New Water Fire was fully contained today at 6:00 p.m.  All resources with the exception of two engines have been released from the fire. A transfer of command from the type III organization back to the host units occurred at 6:00 p.m. today.  The fire will remain in a monitor status until controlled and eventually is declared out. 

The New Water Fire is located approximately six miles east of Meadview, Arizona and fifty miles north of Kingman, Arizona and originated on private land adjacent to the park. 

The fire remains at 9,800 acres.

Location: 6 miles east of Meadview, Arizona and 50 miles north of Kingman, Arizona 

Size: 9,800 

Fuels: grass, brush and pinyon juniper 

Cause: lightning 

Personnel/Equipment currently assigned to the fire:  Two engines. 

Containment: 100%
