Washington, D.C. --- Jane Lyder, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks, U.S. Department of the Interior, has been named acting superintendent of Grand Canyon National Park. Lyder will assume her new duties in early February.

"Jane has vast experience representing national park interests and the Interior Department in water rights issues across the nation, and in particular in the Colorado River corridor," said National Park Service Director Jon Jarvis. "She has been instrumental in crafting laws and implementing polices that guide the management of parks, fish and wildlife, energy development, and wilderness. Her depth of experience, demonstrated leadership, and commitment to the stewardship of public lands will serve us well at the Grand Canyon."

Lyder is a veteran public servant with more than 30 years of experience at Interior where she was the longest serving Legislative Counsel in the history of the department. Her accomplishments have been recognized by numerous awards including the President’s Meritorious Executive Rank Award. Lyder started her federal career in 1975 as an attorney in the Office of the Legislative Counsel of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Lyder received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fordham University and a law degree from the University of North Carolina Law School in Chapel Hill, NC.

The National Park Service has begun a nationwide search for a permanent superintendent.
