Take your class on a field trip to Grand Canyon National Park! All programs are free of charge and address Arizona curriculum standards.

Geology Programs

Dynamic Earth
Unravel the mystery of how Grand Canyon was formed. Includes exploration of a fossil bed and a hike along the rim with several stops for engaging activities focusing on the geologic history of Grand Canyon.
Grade level: 4th-6th      Duration: 5 hours

Grand Canyon Rocks!Hike along the rim and discover the geologic processes that formed Grand Canyon through hands-on activities. A shorter version of Dynamic Earth that omits the fossil exploration. 
Grade level: 4th-6th   Duration: 2 ½ hours

Stories in Stone
Use the tools of a paleontologist to discover clues preserved in the rocks of Grand Canyon. Hunt for fossils and learn what they tell us about the history of the Canyon’s formation.
Grade level: 3rd-6th            Duration: 2 hours

Natural History Programs

Life on the EdgeExplore the plant and animal life that calls Grand Canyon home. Hike along the rim and learn forest and desert ecology through hands-on activities and games.
Grade level: 3rd-5th     Duration: 5 hours      

Human History Programs

Rails and Tales
Discover the people who have shaped Grand Canyon’s history. Walk through Grand Canyon Village, engage in interactive games, and learn about the changing ways people have valued the Canyon over time.
Grade level: 4th-6th        Duration: 2 ½ hours

Time Travelers: Connecting to the Past
Become an archaeologist and unearth clues about Grand Canyon’s ancient inhabitants. Participate in an archaeological “dig”, explore ancient ruins and a museum, and climb the Desert View watchtower to learn about the native peoples that shaped Grand Canyon’s ancient history.
Grade level: 4th-6th           Duration: 5 hours

 

Travel Grants

For schools with restricted travel budgets, we have a limited number of travel grants available. This offer applies to schools who are attending one of our education programs with at least 50% of their students on a free or reduced lunch program.

Grand Canyon Shuttle Buses  

Did You Know?
For more than 30 years Grand Canyon National Park has provided a free shuttle bus system on the South Rim. Visitors and residents have made 75,000,000 boardings. Riding the shuttles makes your stay more enjoyable, while reducing pollution and decreasing traffic congestion.
